Summary of our Terms of Service

Before shipping with Parcelhero, it is crucial to understand the terms to which you agree when accepting our Terms and Conditions. This includes the types of products you can and cannot ship with us and the level of compensation you will receive if your parcel is damaged or lost.

Our Parcel Protection terms

Parcel Protection is an easy and cost-effective way to protect your parcel to its full value if it's lost or damaged.

It should be noted that Parcel Protection is not an insurance policy. It simply extends Parcelhero's liability in the event of loss or damage.

Although our terms and conditions take precedence over any information presented here, this summary outlines the terms of our limits of liability and parcel protection.

Minimum liability offered by Parcelhero

Parcelhero provides the following levels of liability:

  • Super economy services (including EVRi) – No liability (additional protection up to €1,000 can be purchased)

  • All other services – €50 liability

Increase our minimum liability by purchasing Parcel Protection

The minimum liability can be increased by purchasing Parcel Protection:

  • Super economy services (including EVRi) – Up to €1,000

  • All other services – Up to €20,000

Please note that protection for higher values can be offered. However, it is necessary to contact us in advance of shipping to review shipment details and confirm compliance with our packaging criteria.

Claim voiding circumstances

Even with the purchase of parcel protection, claims might not be accepted under the following circumstances:

  • The product being shipped is a Prohibited item or falls within the Compensation exclusion items list.*

  • Damage is only to the exterior packaging (coverage does not extend to exterior packaging, only internal contents).

  • Items have not been packaged in accordance with our labelling and packaging criteria.

  • Watches and jewellery valued over €500 are shipped (liability is limited to €500).

Compensation Exclusions

Certain products are unsuitable for transportation by courier. If these items are shipped and damaged, compensation will not be provided unless prior authorisation* has been obtained. View exclusions list.

* Note on Prior Authorisation for Excluded Items: If an item on the excluded list is being sent, protection for damage can still be offered in some circumstances. Contact us in advance of shipping and provide images of the goods and packaging being used, so an assessment can be made regarding the provision of protection.

Additional Charges

Additional charges may apply to your shipment for any charges by the carrier that were not applied at the point of booking. For example, but not limited to:

  1. The carrier states that the dimensions or weight provided are inaccurate.

  2. The shipment is undeliverable and must be returned.

  3. Import duty or tax is due.

Should additional payment be required, the amount will be deducted from the original payment method. Parcelhero does not retain physical payment details or personal information; only a token generated by the payment merchant is stored.

An appeal for a carrier weight adjustment can only be made if photographic evidence of the parcel's weight and dimensions, along with the issued label, is provided. It is recommended that these photos be taken before shipping. Learn more

Limits of Liability

This is a summary for information purposes of certain provisions of Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited’s Terms and Conditions of Carriage. In case of inconsistency, the full terms prevail. Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited contracts on the basis that its liability is strictly limited to direct loss only and to the per kilogram/pound limits described herein. All other types of loss or damage are excluded (including but not limited to lost profits, loss of income, interest, or future business opportunities).

Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited’s liability for any one shipment is limited to its actual cash value and shall not exceed the greater of €60 or 8.33 SDRs per kilogram of goods affected, subject to proof of loss.

International carriage is governed by the applicable international conventions — including the Montreal or Warsaw Conventions (air) and the CMR Convention (road) — as given effect under Irish law, including the Air Navigation and Transport Acts and the Carriage of Goods by Road Act 1993. These conventions may limit liability as follows:

  • 17 SDRs per kilogram (air)

  • 8.33 SDRs per kilogram (road; delay claims limited to freight charge)

These limits apply unless otherwise required by mandatory provisions of Irish law, and subject to the proof of loss as outlined in our Terms and Conditions.

You may obtain the benefit of a greater limit of liability by declaring an insurance value for carriage on the Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited shipping documentation and paying corresponding additional charge. If you declare an insurance value and pay the applicable charge, then Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited's liability shall be limited to proven damages not exceeding the sum so declared (see under 'Optional services).

The value of the goods concerned shall not in any event exceed €5,000 (€300 in the case of jewellery or costume watches) or its local equivalent per package in a shipment, as Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited does not offer carriage for goods with values exceeding these amounts.

Except when Convention rules or other mandatory laws apply and require otherwise, we will not pay compensation for purely economic losses (such as loss of business opportunities or loss of revenue resulting from loss of use), even if a value has been declared for carriage in respect of the relevant shipment. We will also not be liable for any damage to or loss of packaging. These exclusions apply in business-to-business transactions and shall not exclude or limit rights of consumers where such exclusion is prohibited under Irish consumer protection law.

Any claim against Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited must be notified to us in writing as soon as possible and also within any specific time limits set out in our terms and conditions. In certain circumstances, Convention rules (if applicable) may permit a claim to be pursued against Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited outside these periods.

In addition to the above, any legal proceedings in respect of a shipment must be commenced and served on us within eight months of Deliver or (in the case of non-Deliver) of the due date for Deliver. If the Warsaw, Montreal or CMR Conventions apply, there are longer time limits for the commencement or legal proceedings: in summary 2 years in the case of the Warsaw and Montreal Conventions and 1 year (3 years if there is a wilful misconduct on Parcelhero (Ireland) Limited's part) in the case of CMR Convention.
